FM Approved Industrial Timers and Time Delay Relays
ATC Diversified Electronics offers a selection of FM Approved industrial timers and time delay relays for machinery, process control, OEM equipment, material handling, packaging systems, motors, pumps, switchgear, and other applications requiring controlled timing functions.
The current collection includes the 322B Motor-Driven Analog Reset Timer, 328E Multi-Range Multi-Function Timer, and 339B Plug-In Adjustable Time Delay Relay. Together, these products provide ON-delay, OFF-delay, interval, pulse, automatic-reset, and multifunction timing options in electromechanical, digital-circuit, and solid-state timer designs.
FM Approval indicates that the applicable product has been evaluated and certified by FM Approvals within the scope of its approval. When FM Approval is required for a project, confirm the exact model, configuration, approval scope, installation requirements, and applicable documentation before specification.
What Is FM Approval?
FM Approval is a third-party product certification focused on property-loss-prevention performance. Products carrying the FM APPROVED mark have been evaluated by FM Approvals to the requirements applicable to their certification.
An FM APPROVED mark should be interpreted according to the scope of the applicable approval. It does not by itself mean that a product is approved for every hazardous location, every functional-safety application, or every industrial control circuit.
Why Choose an FM Approved Timer?
Third-Party Product Evaluation: FM Approved products have undergone testing and certification within the scope of the applicable FM Approvals requirements.
Multiple Timing Technologies: ATC's FM Approved timer collection includes motor-driven electromechanical, digitally controlled, and solid-state time delay relay designs.
Multiple Timing Functions: Depending on the selected timer, available functions include ON-delay, OFF-delay, interval, pulse, and automatic-reset operation.
Industrial Mounting Options: The collection includes surface or flush-mount timers as well as plug-in timers designed for compatible industrial sockets.
Adjustable Timing: Available products cover timing periods ranging from fractions of a second to several hours, depending on the timer family and configuration.
322B Motor-Driven Analog Reset Timer
The 322B Motor-Driven Analog Reset Timer is a dial-adjustable electromechanical timer designed for interval, delay, and pulse timing. It is available for ON-delay or OFF-delay operation and provides cycle-progress indication.
The 322B includes both instantaneous and delayed load switches and can be installed using surface or flush mounting. Available timing ranges extend from seconds through hours depending on line frequency and selected model.
For 60 Hz configurations, published ranges include values from 5 seconds through 5 hours. Separate 50 Hz timing ranges are also available.
328E Multi-Range Multi-Function Timer
The 328E Multi-Range Multi-Function Timer combines ON-delay, OFF-delay, and interval operation in one industrial time delay relay.
Six selectable ranges of 1 second, 10 seconds, 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, and 10 hours provide an overall adjustable span from 50 milliseconds to 10 hours.
The 328E operates from 24-240 VAC or 24 VDC and provides a DPDT relay output rated up to 10 amps for compatible loads. A timing LED provides cycle-progress indication, while the 11-blade plug-in design supports compatible socket and panel-mount installations.
339B Plug-In Adjustable Time Delay Relay
The 339B Plug-In Adjustable Time Delay Relay is a solid-state timer with an octal plug-in base and selectable ON-delay or interval timing.
Six dial-selected timing ranges provide adjustment from fractions of a second through 10 hours. The 339B also provides cycle-progress indication and a DPDT relay output rated up to 10 amps at 250 VAC for compatible resistive loads.
ATC identifies the 339B as FM Approved, CSA Approved, UL Recognized, and CE Approved. Fixed-time configurations are also available where field adjustment is not desired.
ON-Delay, OFF-Delay and Interval Timing
ON-delay timing delays an output change after the initiating condition occurs. This function is available on the 322B, 328E, and 339B depending on model configuration.
OFF-delay timing delays the return or transfer of an output after the initiating condition changes. The 322B and 328E provide OFF-delay configurations or operating modes.
Interval timing maintains an output in its timed state for the selected interval before returning it to its normal condition. Interval operation is available on the 322B, 328E, and 339B depending on the selected timer.
Electromechanical vs. Solid-State Time Delay Relays
The 322B uses a motor-driven electromechanical timing design. The 339B uses solid-state timing electronics, while the 328E uses a digital timing circuit to provide multiple selectable functions and ranges.
The best choice depends on the existing installation, required timing sequence, timing range, mounting arrangement, supply voltage, output-contact requirements, and whether the timer is being specified for new equipment or an existing control system.
FM Approved Timers for Industrial Applications
ATC FM Approved timers can be considered for compatible industrial machinery, packaging equipment, material handling, processing systems, motors and pumps, switchgear, production equipment, and OEM control systems where their timing functions and approval scope meet the application requirements.
FM Approval should not replace normal application review. Supply voltage, contact load, control sequence, environmental conditions, equipment requirements, applicable codes, and the specific FM Approval scope should all be confirmed before installation.
Choose the Right FM Approved ATC Timer
Consider the 322B when a motor-driven analog timer with ON-delay or OFF-delay operation, instantaneous and delayed switches, and cycle-progress indication is required.
Select the 328E when one timer must provide ON-delay, OFF-delay, or interval operation across a broad range from 50 milliseconds to 10 hours.
Consider the 339B when a compact octal plug-in solid-state timer with ON-delay or interval operation and timing through 10 hours is preferred.
FM Approved Timer FAQs
What is FM Approval?
FM Approval is a third-party product certification administered by FM Approvals and focused on property-loss-prevention performance. Products carrying the FM APPROVED mark have been tested and certified within the scope of the applicable approval requirements.
What FM Approved products does ATC offer?
ATC's current FM Approved Units collection includes the 322B Motor-Driven Analog Reset Timer, 328E Multi-Range Multi-Function Timer, and 339B Plug-In Adjustable Time Delay Relay.
Does FM Approval mean a timer is approved for every safety application?
No. FM Approval applies within the scope of the specific product certification. The exact approval, product configuration, installation, control function, and applicable system requirements should be reviewed for the intended application.
Does FM Approval mean a timer is approved for hazardous locations?
Not automatically. FM Approvals certifies many different product types and performance characteristics. A timer should only be considered suitable for a hazardous location when its specific approval and product documentation identify that use.
