Power Quality Monitoring, Motor Protection and Industrial Power Solutions
ATC Diversified Electronics offers power quality monitoring and industrial power products for measuring electrical conditions, monitoring motor loads, protecting three-phase equipment, and supplying regulated 24 VDC control power.
The collection includes the VCFP96M 3-Phase Multifunction Power Meter, MPA2 Motor Protection Analyzer, SP0327A True Power Band Monitor, and ATCPWR Series Industrial 24V Power Supplies. Together, these products address different parts of the electrical system, from detailed metering and communications to motor protection, true-power load monitoring, and control-panel power.
Depending on the product, available capabilities include measurement of voltage, current, frequency, power factor, active power, reactive power, apparent power, energy, harmonic distortion, motor electrical faults, true motor power, and regulated 24 VDC output.
Why Monitor Power Quality?
Electrical measurements can provide important information about how equipment and power systems are operating. Parameters such as voltage, current, frequency, power factor, real power, reactive power, apparent power, energy, and harmonic distortion can help operators evaluate electrical loading and investigate abnormal conditions.
The appropriate product depends on the goal. A power meter is suited to detailed electrical measurement, a motor protection analyzer adds protective response to monitored motor conditions, a true-power monitor evaluates motor loading based on actual power consumption, and an industrial DC power supply provides regulated control power rather than electrical measurement.
VCFP96M 3-Phase Multifunction Power Meter
The VCFP96M 3-Phase Multifunction Power Meter is a digital metering system for single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. It can be used on single-phase, three-phase three-wire, and three-phase four-wire balanced or unbalanced systems.
The VCFP96M measures and displays voltage, current, frequency, power factor, active power, reactive power, apparent power, and energy. It also provides True RMS voltage and current measurement, neutral-current measurement, phase-sequence detection, and total harmonic distortion measurement through the 31st harmonic.
Programmable CT and PT primary and secondary values allow the meter to be matched to different electrical systems. A pulse output and RS485 Modbus RTU communication support integration with compatible PLCs, RTUs, computers, data loggers, SCADA systems, and other monitoring platforms.
Power Factor and Harmonic Monitoring
The VCFP96M can display power factor and measure total harmonic distortion, providing additional information beyond basic voltage and current measurements.
Harmonic and power-factor data can provide useful context when investigating loading, electrical-system behavior, nonlinear loads, and other operating conditions. The meter provides measurement data rather than correcting power factor or filtering harmonics itself.
MPA2 Motor Protection Analyzer
The MPA2 Motor Protection Analyzer is a microprocessor-based three-phase motor protection relay that continuously monitors motor current and voltage while also measuring electrical operating parameters.
The MPA2 can respond to conditions including overload, undercurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, voltage unbalance, current unbalance, single phasing, phase reversal, and frequency deviation, depending on the configured protection settings.
In addition to protective functions, the MPA2 measures electrical parameters including current, voltage, frequency, power factor, real power, reactive power, and energy consumption. RS485 Modbus RTU communication supports integration with compatible monitoring and control systems.
Motor Electrical Monitoring and Protective Response
Unlike a meter that primarily provides electrical information, the MPA2 can use configured electrical thresholds to control its output relay when monitored motor conditions move outside acceptable limits.
Protection settings and restart behavior should be selected according to the motor, load, process, current transformers, starter configuration, and required control philosophy. The MPA2 complements, rather than replaces, other required branch-circuit, short-circuit, ground-fault, and process protection where those functions are required.
SP0327A True Power Band Monitor
The SP0327A True Power Band Monitor is designed to monitor motor load using true electrical power rather than current alone.
Motor current may change only modestly between lightly loaded and fully loaded conditions in some applications. The SP0327A evaluates power using line voltage, motor current, and power factor, providing a measurement that more directly reflects actual electrical power consumed by the motor.
True-power monitoring can be useful where changes in mechanical load need to be detected through the motor's electrical behavior, including machinery and process applications where current alone may not provide enough resolution.
True Power Monitoring vs. Current Monitoring
A current monitor evaluates amperage. A true-power monitor evaluates the actual electrical power associated with the load by considering voltage, current, and power factor together.
The appropriate method depends on the application. Current monitoring can be effective where load changes create clear current changes, while true power monitoring may provide additional sensitivity where the current difference between low-load and high-load operation is relatively small.
ATCPWR Series Industrial 24V Power Supplies
The ATCPWR Series provides regulated 24 VDC DIN rail-mounted power for industrial control systems. The series includes 60W, 120W, 240W, and 480W models.
ATCPWR power supplies accept approximately 90-264 VAC or 127-370 VDC input and include built-in active power factor correction. Depending on model, efficiency ranges from approximately 87% to 93.5% at 230 VAC.
Built-in protection includes short-circuit, overload, overvoltage, and over-temperature protection. The units use free-air convection cooling and are UL 508 approved, with cULus, CE, RoHS, and REACH compliance identified by ATC.
Power Quality Products for Industrial Systems
ATC power quality products can support electrical monitoring and control in industrial control panels, motor-driven equipment, pumps, production machinery, water and wastewater systems, building management systems, generators, load banks, process equipment, and power-management systems.
Because each product performs a different function, selection should begin with the specific electrical question being addressed: measurement, protective response, motor-load monitoring, communications, or control-power conversion.
Choose the Right Power Quality Product
Choose the VCFP96M when detailed electrical metering, harmonic measurement, energy monitoring, and Modbus communications are required. Consider the MPA2 when three-phase motor electrical monitoring must also provide configurable protective response.
Use the SP0327A when motor loading needs to be evaluated using true electrical power rather than current alone. Select an ATCPWR Series power supply when the application requires regulated 24 VDC control power with DIN rail mounting and built-in electrical protection.
